KDrama endings: Marry Him If You Dare

In fair tales the concept of a good ending is when good triumphs over evil and the rest “lived happily ever after”.  As viewers, we always want our dramas to end with the hero saving the day, the villain punished, and the romantic leads riding off into the sunset. Not all dramas end up the way we fans would’ve wanted.

This is a new series to talk about the ending of a drama either good or bad. I warn you all of spoilers. If you want to watch the drama, stop reading now. If you want to know if the drama is worth your time, continue on. If you've watch the drama, I'm sorry or yay!!!

The first drama I'm going to talk about is Marry Him If You Dare (aka Mi Rae's Choice).

The drama ends with the characters 3 years later. Mi Rae is a bestselling author, Yoo Kyung headlines her own show as MC, Shin is still battling NTN, but has his own radio journalism show, Se Joo arrives back in Korea possibly to take over the family business, and Oppa got married with his second kid on the way.

The ending has Mi Rae leaves the bookstore when she suddenly stops, turns, and smiles. Epilogue shows Ahjumma Mi Rae digging up a chest full of pictures of a handsome young man to a younger Mi Rae and toddler. A male’s hand clasps over Ahjumma’s hand holding the old picture.

The question the drama never explains is whom did Mi Rae pick, Shin or Se Joo? Ahjumma Mi Rae broke the rules and escape to the past in hopes of changing the future. However, the jump to the past never changed her present future. The time line split off Ahjumma’s future to an unknown future choice. The close up ending with Mi Rae smiling isn’t enough closure as the drama can be translated to Mi Rae’s Choice and no choice was ever made. It isn’t surprising viewers were confused and irritated by this choice of ending.

It's still a drama today I'm the most annoyed with. Going back and forth with the two males was fun at first, but the drama itself couldn't pick which one it wanted to be with. Not to mention the whole point of the drama was to see Mi Rae make a choice about her future husband. An open ending isn't a bad thing if the drama calls upon one but this drama was not one to leave it open for fans to put the pieces together.

A happily ever after isn't what I was after as dramaland has told me being married is just the beginning to a long life of loving and fighting. I just would've like to know who the darn man Mi Rae ended up loving and fighting with for the next 50+ years. Not to much to ask for ....

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 16 (Final): The future is the present

I spend the day thinking about episode 16. My first reaction to the end, Bull Sh*t!!! I felt cheated by the ending this writer gave us. I don’t just want to talk about the ending but leading up to the ending and why I called it Bull.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 15: Rumour Has It

Last episode Ajumma found out from Agent Smith, she isn’t the same Mi Rae as the one in the current present. Ajumma did not change HER future. Instead she created an Alternate Universe.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 14: Which universe are we in: Red or Blue?

Alternate Timeline
Finally, we get some answers and more questions. Let dig into Agent Smith’s reason for being in the past. He states he is there to help those who go to the past to get back home. Yay!!! We get to know why he is there. It explains why he is tearing up when he looks at Ajumma back in the bar/café. Who is his boss? It seemed as if his bosses didn’t want Ajumma to know she will not be the new Mi Rae she helped changed.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 13: Somebody That I Used to Know

I'm the Boss
Yay!!! Se Joo finally comes out to everyone he is the new CEO of YBS. I love how he tells his old team he is thankful for all he has learned from them but the Jerk PD. Good for Se Joo changing the system. He is going to base everyone on their hard work. Do good and you continue to will excel.  I look forward to what else he plans on changing and doing. We know he is supposed to be a media god in the future, I wonder if this is still the case.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 12: Alice Down the Rabbit Hole

Taking the Blame
Poor Ajumma. It seems you have been through a lot. You know it isn’t good to keep it inside. You should talk more about what happen. Hint Hint – tell us EVERYTHING. I think Ajumma has also grown up from when she first arrived. She also takes the blame for their son dying. Oh how much pain to have gone through to have your son die but to know if you just want after him inside of wanting to rant at Shin more about who is right or wrong. Oh Drama why do you have to add another twist to things? There is another reason. I am going to take a guess it has to do with Oppa. He must be sick, but is this all? I get the feeling there might be more.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 11: Bad Romance

I like you
Again what is with these guys confessing to her in public? Try to confess without so many people around.  I knew this confession wasn’t going to be the end all of confessing. I feel bad a little for Shin. He finally gets the balls to say how he feels about Mi Rae, but she isn’t having it. There wasn’t any sincerity to his confessing. Mi Rae told him to fight for his fate and not to be afraid and now wants to say how he feels for Mi Rae. Guys find a better time to confess to this girl.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 10: The Hair is Gone

Odd man left out
Shin is the only one who doesn’t know Ajumma is Mi Rae from the future. I am wondering if she were to tell him if he would believe her like everyone else OR finally tell him the reason why Mi Rae and Shin can’t be together. Mi Rae changed when she was told about her future. She changed from being afraid for standing up for what she wants. The call center she allowed people to step over her (i.e. the Red Man on the phone.) Now she wants to work hard for her dreams. Would Shin finding out he would hurt Mi Rae badly in the future help change his outlook on life? I mean Ajumma has broken all the rules might as well go down with a bang. Despite the crap Shin did in the future she still loves him. Shin doesn’t understand what he did to her to make her hate him so much. Honey, I only know you become a jerk but I too am in the dark on that one.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 9: The game is afoot

Hello Sweet heart, those are spoilers
Just about everyone found out Ajumma Mi Rae this week. Oppa may or may not believe after Ajumma told him the truth behind her scar. No for him it wasn’t until, she told him the future she will have with Shin. Really Drama, it is 9 episodes in and you still not going to answer this question. You tell Oppa but not us. So not cool. This story better be a sad depressing and heartbreaking about who dies, because all this hype is making me think the story will fall flat.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 8: WHAT IS LOVE?

Hypothetical
If Se Joo was the head of YBS Shin would beg on his knees for forgiveness. Has Shin changed from the original timeline or is he the same. Se Joo states Shin’s true nature is to stomp on the weak and cower to the powerful. Sure Se Joo is seeing how the bottom level works but I am not sure if what he is seeing is a bad thing or good thing. I do wonder what his end game is. At this point, we know he wanted to learn from the ground up, but it seem with his interaction with Mi Rae, Shin and Yoo Kyung he is moving his plans up.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 7: Vomiting Rainbows …

Pick a Seat
HAHA!!! Mi Rae having to pick where to sit and picking to sit away from her oppa and suitors cracked me up. The look on their faces was priceless. The rest of the team doesn’t know what to do with both Shin and Se Joo giving attention to Mi Rae. Yoo Kyung sitting next to Se Joo was humorous as she targets in on her target. Of course, all the guys on the other end want her to sit next them. How clever this writer is as they wrote the scene showing the difference between the girls.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 6: Stop Forest Fires

To do or not to do the right thing?
Shin is truly growing as a character. When we first saw him, he couldn’t keep his tongue and think before saying. He has come a long way from dropping a bad word here and there to telling a young kid to not do it. The writer has made me fall for Shin with his growth. I can see why both Mi Rae’s may have fallen for Shin. Sure the other timeline Shin may not have grown-up but within this timeline we see him becoming closer to his co-workers, holding his tongue, standing up for others, and becoming a hero slowly in my heart. This is a true sign of good writing. Let’s keep it up.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 5: The beginning of a Beautiful Friendship

Why pick one when I can date both?
Mi Rae figures why I should have to pick one to date when you can date both and figure out feelings. That is the point of dating is to figure out if these feelings could grow and maybe not. I like how she isn’t jumping on the wagon and saying yep have to go with this guy because of me telling me not to pick the other one. I hope there are tons of dates with Shin and Se Joo. I hope this drama really puts a spin on which Mi Rae should be with. Typically, we the viewers know she is going to end up with the lead, but is he the right choice for her? A jerk with a heart of gold … is normally how they make amends for the evil doings they did at the beginning. I want some kisses and hugs and happy times but I want a little more from the drama when it comes to the triangle love story.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 4: Destiny is a Fixed Point in Time ... or not

Fate must meet Fate

Se Joo may not have fallen in love with Yoo Kyung but they seem to bump into each other. Just like Mi Rae and Shin meeting with another car accident our second leads must meet “alone”.  The bar scene was pretty comical. We the viewers know he is an undercover boss but Yoo Kyung doesn’t know anything. Which make the whole scene amusing when she goes to pay for his very expensive drinks.  Ha, the look on her face is just priceless. Her aegyo went out the door pretty fast when she found out how much those drinks were. Who knew there was a person under her fake mask? Which leads me to …

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 3: That's the trouble with time travel, you can never remember ...

Mi Rae is fighting tooth and nail for herself ...

Mi Rae is a delightful character. Each episode she continues to be charming, sweet, and very much adorable. Thank you drama for showing Mi Rae to take a stand and to love herself. I can’t wait to see how this character grows with each episode. She may not believe everything her Ajumma self has said but I think deep down she knows the Ajumma is trying to help her out.

Marry Him If You Dare Episode 1 & 2: Choices Your Future Self Will Thank You For

Na Mi Rae is a 32 year old who works at a call center who happens to meets her future ajumma self. Her crazy future ajumma self tells Mi Rae not to drive that day. If she does, fate will let her meet the one she is destined to marry.  Ajumma Mi Rae really isn’t letting us know much about why. I know I know … spoilers, but gosh darn it I like reading a little bit of spoilers. Mi Rae listened to her crazy self and missed the opportunity to meet the man. Ajumma Mi Rae informs Mi Rae the man in the car will kill the person she loves the most. Okay now it is getting interesting …

Future Choice

Marry Him if You Dare hasn’t gotten a lot of press. I would have to say this is because of the hype for Heirs. To be honest Yoon Eun Hye hasn’t had a really good drama. Lie to Me was okay but it wasn’t Goong or Coffee Prince. With that being said, I hope Future Choice or whatever you want to call it will be a winner. It sounds interesting enough.

A time traveling drama with Yoon Eun Hye’s character Mi Rae is told by her future ajumma self who time travel from 2043 to warn her younger self not to marry Lee Dong Gun’s character. She instead wants to introduce herself to Jung Yong Hwa’s character who happens to be a secret chaebol pretending to be a VJ. Now Mi Rae has to make a choice “be with the one she loves” or “the one she ought to”.

First Yoon Eun Hye’s ajumma perm is just killing me. I am caught between laughing and wanting to take a flat iron to her hair. This is one of the things I love about Eun Hye. She takes chances and some of those chances mean a hair cut to get into character (looking at you Coffee Prince). I hope the perm doesn’t say to long.

I am very much interesting in finding out how the time travel myth is going to be explained. Not to mention what the fall back will be when she starts to change her future. Isn’t this going to change older ajumma Mi Rae when she makes a difference choice? The drama reminds me a little of Roswell season 2 “The End Of The World” – Future Max goes to the “present” Liz to ask for her help to get his “present” self to fall out of love with her and to fall for Tess.

At this point, I am not sure who I want Mi Rae to fall for. I do love CNBlue and have a soft spot for Yong Hwa. You’re Beautiful made me totally want the second character to have a chance. One of the reason Heartstrings is a favorite no matter how bad the drama was. I got to love out my fantasy of Yong Hwa getting Park Shin Hye finally. I really love Lee Dong Gun in Sweet 18. I am such a sucker for that drama. Something about it that just makes me smiles. It is the trope of putting two people under one roof and seeing the fireworks or love take over. I love that trope.

I am hoping Viki gets the rights to show this drama soon. Fingers cross.

Take a look at the trailer for this drama below:
